1st May 2024 - Beltane

Traditionally celebrated to acknowledge the midpoint between spring and summer, this period is recognized as a time of peak fertility.  This is an incredibly joyful, festive time. It is a time for coming together, to celebrate the joy of life.  It is about casting off the darkness and celebrating the light. The word ‘Beltane’ roughly translates as ‘bright fire’ and Beltane celebrations are often marked with bonfires seen as a symbol of purification and healing.

Banquets were often held in the open air, prepared with the produce of the time. The tradition of “the queen of May” comes from this festival in which a young woman was chosen to represent the goddess of nature.

This celebration will be held at Purusha Retreats – a beautiful oasis in the Lincolnshire countryside where we will have exclusive use of the grounds for the day.

Together we will make gorgeous flower crowns from seasonal flowers. We will have a beautiful cooking demonstration from Holly Nelstrop of Holly’s Garden Kitchen using fresh home-grown produce and then we will eat together, sharing a banquet of seasonal food, with the fire-pit alight to celebrate the joy of nature and the coming of summer.

The workshop is held at Purusha Retreats 10 am – 6 pm. 10 places max. All materials are provided £165 pp
