As a floral artist I grow flowers and natural materials to help me express my relationship with nature and the seasons. I love to see how other artists work with nature and am delighted to collaborate with these soulful creatives who bring their particular skill and understanding into my garden.

 A LOVE LETTER TO TREES

Join Guy Petheram and myself for a beautiful workshop celebrating our connection to, and the beauty of, trees. Guy is a garden designer with a huge affinity for trees and he leads tree walks at Doddington Hall, RHS Harlow Carr and Sheffield Botanical Gardens.

Guy and Rachel will lead a session in the gardens at Doddington Hall, where Guy will tell you about our connection to trees and their role in our history and culture and Rachel will guide you in a sylvotherapy session, where the therapeutic nature of trees will help you to relax and connect with nature.

We will use the trees for artistic expression, using mulberry paper and charcoal to create beautiful, unique bark rubbings, which will capture the essence of the trees in the garden at Doddington Hall.

 mindful watercolour

Watercolour painting is a highly rewarding and mindful process allowing for experimentation and exploration of techniques enabling you to focus on the beauty of the flowers in front of you, putting everyday life to one side. It allows you to hone in on the details of nature, finding a place of calm and relaxation. It is a beautiful route to increased nature connection.

Rachel and artist Louise Earnshaw have teamed up to run this mindful workshop, to encourage you to focus on the beauty of flowers and express it using watercolour techniques. Rachel will guide you in a mindfulness walk in the gardens and you will harvest flowers from Rachel’s cutting garden which you will use for your watercolour study.

Louise will guide you through a range of watercolour techniques encouraging you to explore your own creative outcomes. You will learn some basic watercolour, colour mixing and observation methods inviting you to look closely at natural forms and details.
